Reasons parents send their children to public school
The top reasons parents send their children to government-run public school:
- They think it is the best thing to do.
- They don’t want to do it themselves.
- They don’t have the time or desire to homeschool.
- They don’t feel competent to teach their own children.
- They fear that not sending children to public school will result in a loss of socialization skills.
- They can’t afford the extra cost of paying for homeschool materials.
- They don’t want to or can’t afford the cost of private school even though public school costs are as costly as private schools in most cases.
- They want others to pay for their child’s educational costs since it costs just as much as private school and they could never afford the actual cost of public school education.
- They can’t afford the time to do it themselves since both parents must work jobs to afford their desired lifestyle. Downsizing by having fewer cars, more modest home, lower vacation expenditures, giving up expensive hobbies, etc.
- They don’t want to sacrifice their own time and prefer to have someone else spend their time teaching their children. Parents want to have their time to themselves not spent doing the chore of education.
- They and their parents all went to public school so it is traditional.
- They are afraid of being social outcasts or ostracized (peer pressure) for not doing so, not being able to play sports.
